Students will build an eel, four fish and a coral reef environment. As they slide each fish in front of a color sensor, the eel will either not react or attack the fish by lunging forward to eat it. Students can conclude that the surviving fish's color helps it more easily blend into the environment. They will then build the offspring of the surviving fish, including its inherited advantageous trait and others it develops to increase survival. Afterward, students will relate this experience to real-life examples of animals with survival traits. An optional evaluative prompt asks students to explain the fish's survival based on traits.

Učenci bodo zgradili okolje z jeguljo, štirimi ribami in koralnim grebenom. Ko bodo vsako ribo pomaknili pred barvni senzor, se jegulja bodisi ne bo odzvala bodisi bo napadla ribo, tako da se bo zagnal naprej, da jo poje. Učenci lahko sklepajo, da barva preživelih rib jim pomaga, da se lažje zlijejo z okoljem.
