Students will build a robot and three challenges it must complete. They will explore how the robot's design affects its ability to complete the challenges. They will then iterate and test the robot until achieving an optimal design in which the robot can successfully complete all three challenges. Afterwards, students will share their improved robots and relate this to real-life examples of how iteration moves towards optimal design. An optional evaluative prompt asks students to describe the iteration process in their robot and when they decided they had achieved an optimal design.
